Cooking of any kind removes nutrients, but microwave ovens destroy almost all of a food’s nutritional value and will alter substances in food to a form that is totally toxic. Why are Microwave Ovens being promoted, when they are so detrimental to our health? Why did the Russians ban this appliance in 1976, which is being used in 90% of America’s homes? Is convenience worth a shorter life? These are questions which must be addressed, concerning a product, which is being used daily.
Over eighteen years ago I became aware of this information and passed it along to many people. I handed out literature to all my clients, friends and loved ones. Not everybody will automatically throw out this oven, but truly intelligent people will be open to doing this. One lady who did so, said that she would never give, it to anyone – it had to go into the trash. Today, I would tell those who are so minded to take it to the Hazardous Waste Collection…it is far too dangerous to go into the regular trash.
You need to know, how microwaves work. Microwaves are very short waves of electromagnetic energy that travel at the speed of light (188,282 miles per second). In our modern technological society, microwaves are used to relay long distance telephone signals, television programs, and computer information across the earth or to a satellite in space. But the microwave is most familiar to us as an energy source for cooking food.
Every microwave oven contains a magnetron, a tube in which electrons are affected by magnetic and electric fields in such a way as to produce microwave radiation at about 2450 Mega Hertz (Mhz) or 2.45 Giga Hertz (Ghz). This microwave radiation interacts with the molecules in food. All wave energy changes polarity from positive to negative with each cycle of the wave. In microwaves, these polarity changes occur millions of times every second. Food molecules – especially the molecules of water – have a positive and negative end in the same way a magnet has a north and a south polarity.
In commercial models, the oven has a power input of about 1000 watts of alternating current. As these microwaves generated from the magnetron bombard the food, they cause the polar molecules to rotate at the same frequency millions of time a second. All this agitation creates molecular friction, which heats up the food. The friction also causes substantial damage to the surrounding molecules, often tearing them apart or forcefully altering them. The scientific name for this deformation is “structural isomerism.”
Radiation = spreading energy with electromagnetic waves.
Radiation, as defined by physics terminology is, the electromagnetic waves emitted by the atoms and molecules of a radioactive substance as a result of “nuclear decay.” Radiation causes ionization, which is what occurs when a neutral atom gains or loses electrons. In simpler terms, a microwave oven breaks down and changes the molecular structure of the food by the process of radiation. Had the manufacturers accurately called them “radiation ovens,” it’s doubtful they would have ever sold one, but that’s exactly what a microwave oven is.
We’ve all been told that microwaving food is not the same as irradiating it (radiation “treatment”). The two processes are supposed to use completely different waves of energy and at different intensities. No FDA or officially released government studies have proven current microwaving usage to be harmful, but we all know that the validity of studies can be – and are sometimes deliberately – limiting. Many of these studies are later proven to be inaccurate. As consumers, we’re supposed to have a certain degree of common sense to use in judgment.
I don’t know about you, but I have found that I can’t stand the taste of microwaved food. I have been in restaurants where I did not know the food had been microwaved. I simply couldn’t eat it. I had the same experience another time, when a lady was serving me breakfast. She made scrambled eggs in a microwave and to me they tasted like eating rubber. I couldn’t eat them.
Many of my generation grew up eating food, which had not been made in a microwave oven. Today’s generation are using microwave ovens for convenience and to save time, without awareness that they are harming their health from the massive destruction of nutrients through the microwave process. Could it be otherwise? We know that regular ovens and stove top cooking destroys nutrients too. We are being advised by food experts to use steaming, over any other cooking method, because it inflicts the least damage to our food.
Organically grown raw food is the ideal, but if you must cook – steam your food — and don’t even tolerate a microwave in your kitchen. Microwaves emit radiation, even when not in use. There is a device known as a gaussmeter, which measures the amount of radiation coming off of a microwave oven, cell phones, TVs, computers, etc. People might be interested in knowing that this radiation is throwing their energy fields out of balance and is setting them up for future diseases, such as, cancer. In 1996 I read an article in Health Freedom News – September/October which was entitled Our Children at Risk, written by Bob L. Owen, PhD., D.Sc. He wrote about personally using a gaussmeter to check out a microwave in a friend’s kitchen. Though his friend had never used it; it was not unplugged; it was used for its clock. To his horror, even though the microwave was not on, and hadn’t been for a full year, the meter read 14-16 milligauss! Though no international ‘safe’ standards have been set, a reading of one milligauss or less is generally considered as ‘safe’. The plug was pulled immediately. The following morning, the microwave reading was zero.
I learned years ago that the amount of radiation coming off of a microwave oven, even when turned off, was not at an acceptable level. Because you can’t see this radiation, doesn’t make it less dangerous. Health professionals and growing numbers of scientists continue to warn of the dangers of microwave use, even for such seemingly innocuous uses as heating water.
In my book Sharing from the Heart I wrote the following: “Our brains continually generate minute electrical currents, which empower every cell. However, man-made EMF’s (Electro Magnetic Fields) have exposed the American people to over 200 times more radiation than any people have been exposed to since the beginning of time. Few people realize that their bodies are being radiated by EMFs. This stress can be measured by changes in the endocrine, growth and immune systems and also, in blood work, reaction time, ability to concentrate, sleeping patterns and in the brain. These fields are a real threat to the human body. They effect us, whether we know it or not. They are effecting the body’s natural electrical system.
Electrical equipment can be checked with special equipment to measure electrical magnetic output . It is wise to check the EMFs in areas where you and your family spend time. Check the bedroom, TV/rec room, work/office, and kitchen. It is important to keep electrical devices out of the bedroom where you sleep at night, including clock radios (usually placed close to the head), waterbed heating units, and electric blankets. Make sure the bedroom walls aren’t backed up to televisions, electric or microwave ovens, or any other electrical unit…
Can we live in a large city without suffering from electro magnetic fields? The answer is no! And these fields are becoming worse, as more devices are being made and utilized. There are energy currents going through our bodies constantly. We are surrounded by high tension wires, telephone wires and electrical wiring in our homes with fields of energy all about them, and we are exposed to them daily. They provide labor-saving energy for all kinds of devices that we can’t live without, but are zapping us of energy by their proximity.” I wrote this in my book a number of years ago.
The Swiss Clinical Study: Dr. Hans Ulrich Hertel, who is now retired, worked as a food scientist for many years with one of the major Swiss food companies that do business on a global scale. A few years back, he was fired from his job for questioning certain procedures that denatured the food..
In 1991, he and a Lausanne University professor published a research paper indicating that food cooked in microwave ovens could pose a greater risk to health than food cooked by conventional means. An article also appeared in Issue 19 of the Journal Franz Weber in which it was stated that the consumption of food cooked in microwave ovens had cancerous effects on the blood. The research paper itself followed the article. On the cover of the magazine there was a picture of the Grim Reaper holding a microwave oven in one of his hands.
Dr. Hertel was the first scientist to conceive and carry out a quality clinical study on the effects microwaved nutrients had on the blood and physiology of the human body. His small, but well controlled study showed the degenerative force produced in microwave ovens and the foods processed in them. The scientific conclusion showed that microwave cooking changed the nutrients in the food, and, changes took place in the participants’ blood that could cause deterioration in the human system. Hertel’s scientific study was done along with Dr. Bernard H. Blanc of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and the University Institute of Biochemistry.
As soon as Doctors Hertel and Blanc published their results, the authorities reacted. A powerful trade organization, the Swiss Association of Dealers for Electro-Apparatuses for Households and Industry known as FEA, struck swiftly in 1992. They forced the President of the Court of Seftigen, Canton of Bern. To issue a “gag order” against Doctors Hertel and Blanc. In March 1993, Dr. Hertel was convicted for “interfering with commerce” and prohibited from further publishing his results. However, Doctor Hertel stood his ground and fought this decision over the years.
Not long after, the decision was reversed in a judgment delivered in Strausbourg, Austria on August 24, 1998. The European Court of Human Rights held that there had been a violation of Hertel’s rights in the 1993 decision. The European Court of Human Rights also ruled that the “gag order” issued by the Swiss Court in 1992 against Dr. Hertel prohibiting him from declaring that microwave ovens are dangerous to human health was contrary to the right to freedom of expression. In addition, Switzerland was ordered to pay Dr. Hertel compensation.
Microwave oven manufacturers still insist that microwaved or irradiated foods do not have any significantly higher radiolytic compounds than do broiled, baked or other conventionally cooked foods. The scientific evidence presented here has shown this is simply a lie. In America, neither universities nor the federal government have conducted any tests concerning the effects on our bodies from eating microwaved foods. They’re more concerned with studies on what happens if the door on the microwave doesn’t close properly. Once again common sense tells us that their attention should be centered on what happens to food cooked inside a microwave oven. Since people ingest this altered food, shouldn’t there be concern for how the same damaged molecules will affect our own human biological cell structure.
Who invented microwave ovens? The Nazis, for use in their mobile support operations, originally developed microwave “radiomissor” cooking ovens to be used for their invasion of Russia. By being able to utilize electronic equipment for preparation of meals on a mass scale; the logistical problem of cooking fuels would have been eliminated, as well as the convenience of producing edible products in a greatly reduced time factor.
After the end of World War 2, the Allies discovered medical research done by the Germans on microwave ovens. These documents, along with some working microwave ovens, were transferred to the United States War Department and classified for reference and “further scientific investigation.” The Russians had also retrieved some microwave ovens and now have thorough research on their biological effects. As a result, their use was outlawed by the Soviet Union. The Soviets issued an international warning on the health hazards, both biological and environmental of microwave ovens and similar frequency electronic devices.
Other Eastern European scientists also reported the harmful effects of microwave radiation and set up strict environmental limits for their usage. The United States has not accepted the European reports of harmful effects, even though the EPA estimates that radio frequency and microwave radiation sources in America are increasing at 15% per year.
What price will be paid for the convenience of this time-saving device? Will one’s latter years be plagued by illness and earlier death? We face many dangers in life, but getting this dangerous device out of one’s kitchen should be a top priority. Using a device, which alters the molecules in the food to a state which the body doesn’t recognize – leaves the food without nutritive value. We need food which will supply us with the energy we need to exist – microwaved food is too badly damaged to supply us with the living nutrition we need.
Biological Effects of Exposure to microwave emissions also had an unpredictably negative effect upon the general biological welfare of humans. This was not discovered until the Russians experimented with highly sophisticated equipment and discovered that a human did not even need to ingest the material substance of the microwaved food substances; that even exposure to the energy field itself was sufficient to cause such adverse effects that the use of any such microwave apparatus was forbidden in 1976 by Soviet state law.
Ten Reasons to Throw Out Your Microwave Oven:
1) Continually eating food processed in a microwave oven causes long-term, permanent brain damage by “shorting out” electrical impulses in the brain.
2) The human body can’t metabolize (break down) the unknown by-products created in microwaved food.
3) Male and female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by eating microwaved food.
4) The effects of microwaved food by-products are residual (long-term, permanent) within the human body
5) Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of microwaved food are reduced or altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down.
6) The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when cooked in microwave ovens.
7) Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths (tumors). This may explain the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in the United States.
8) The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood.
9) Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies through lymph gland and blood serum alterations.
10) Eating microwaved food causes memory loss, and problems with concentration, emotional stability, and a decrease in intelligence.

There are industry hawks who are biased. They are being paid to tout the benefits of microwave cooking. I was surprised to find that Harvard University was in their corner.
I have never used a microwave oven…and I have tried to warn others for years. It is difficult to get through to many who think that our government would not permit this device to be sold, if it were as harmful as these studies suggest. I am afraid they are naïve. Money talks and this microwave industry is gigantic. If people don’t wake up, the future looks ominous.
Hopefully you will do what you have to do personally in order to improve your health – and getting your microwave oven out of your kitchen is crucial. I will also suggest that you will curtail the time you spend on your cell phone and get back to your land line in order to avoid radiation that is suspected of creating future brain tumors. We need to be pro active in order to survive.
